Watermelon mini sessions

Watermelon mini sessions

A mini session is when a photographer does a whole bunch of short photoshoots on the same day, for a great price.

It’s a perfect way for someone to get to know the photographer and the photographers style without committing to a full photography session.

The photographer can also offer a great price because they are only setting up once, preparing, and taking down the props/scene once, and doing photo shoots back to back.

I wanted to do watermelon mini sessions because it’s been such a long winter for everyone trapped inside and isolated as a result of the pandemic. Summer is here and everyone is itching to get outside and enjoy summer. Also, due to Covid-19, I’m still not offering sessions indoors so I have to take advantage of the nice weather while I can.

The sessions worked out great! A lovely woman from Facebook offered to lend me her canopy for the sessions and this was so helpful. There are really nice people out there.

It was a lot of fun getting the props, and setting everything up. All of the sessions were held in our backyard, which isn’t a very large or remarkable yard but the bushes made for a nice background.

The day worked out great, and the rain held off until the last session at 2pm but the canopy offered protection.

I had a few 2 year olds come through and it was funny to watch them, they are all so similar (my son included). They have their own agenda and weren’t about to sit down and just eat watermelon for 20 min. It is a really cute age, attitude and all.

The parents are always very helpful, trying to engage their kids and get them to smile. Once child had several relatives come to the session that stood behind me encouraging her.

I had a few babies come by and both were so smiley and adorable, and even a 12 year old that enjoyed the watermelon even more than some of the toddlers who preferred a lollypop .

Also had the honour of photographing a family whose photos I take every year which is amazing as I get to watch the kids grow!

In regards to COVID-19, I would never want anyone to get sick as a result of doing a photo session with me so I took a lot of precautions. I was able to use different materials for the kids to sit on and wash them between the sessions since the sessions. I had lysol wipes, and hand sanitizer available. I wiped off everything in between sessions, and even found myself wiping off the grass. I am not used to worrying about germs during a photo shoot but I’m a better safe than sorry gal. Not gonna lie, it was a bit distracting but it is our “new normal”.

Thanks to everyone who came by and participated!
