Calgary family and maternity photo shoot at Fish Creek Park

This beautiful little family contacted me for a maternity shoot and we decided to do it in Fish Creek Park at the Bow Valley Ranch location. 

The Bow Valley Ranch location is nice because there is a lot of grassy areas, some little bridges, and paths. There is also the Bow Valley Ranch restaurant, and some barn-like buildings that are really nice. I guess that is why it’s a really popular location for photographers!

We set the appointment for 12:30pm, which is actually a time I don’t recommend due to harsh daylight but the only one that was mutually convenient.

The entire morning it POURED outside. We chatted and decided to go ahead with the shoot in the rain. I got a bit excited, I have never done a shoot in the rain! 

I stopped at Walmart and picked up some cute clear matching umbrellas. I pull into the parking lot of Fish Creek and the rain stops right then. 

As it turns out it didn’t rain a drop the whole time we did the shoot.

The shoot actually worked out better than expected because it wasn’t sunny and I didn’t have to worry too much about that harsh lighting (although I still sought out the shade anyways!). I used the umbrellas anyways as props to add some interest. 

Their little girl is full of personality and like most two year olds she had a surge of energy and when she was done, she was done! I find it heartwarming and funny how similar this age is. They are have their own personalities but they are remarkably alike and predictable in their 2 year old ways.
