What a cute little cake smasher! A little shy right off the hop this cute fella did warm up to me and we got some very cute photos.

He was not a huge fan of the cake and that does happen sometimes. It seems strange but it is not necessary for them to love eating the cake to get great photos. Some photographers do not even use a real cake during cake smashes!

What to do if your baby isn’t into the cake? There are a few things to keep in mind and a few ways I work around this.

1) I try to get as many good portraits as I can before the cake just in case they aren’t interested in the cake.

2) Put snacks behind the cake such as rice puffs, fruit or whatever they like to keep them sitting by the cake happily.

3) Give them utensils to use so they can play with the cake like a spoon or a toy. Some babies smash the cake and play with it but don’t eat much. If they have not had a lot of sugar yet it can be too sweet for them but they may really enjoy playing with it.

4) Add a bath! Sometimes they love the bath more than the cake. Between the portraits, the cake smash and the bath you get a very full gallery even if they did not love eating the cake.
