It is almost Easter and I just wrapped up some adorable Easter mini sessions and am now working on Mothers day minis! It is a great excuse to get some beautiful photos of you and your little ones. However, are mini sessions right for you?

What are mini sessions?

A mini session is more of an event, as they are offered on designated days. Photographers may offer sessions that are short in duration as part of their repertoire but technically that is not a mini session. Mini sessions are when photographers pick a day or two, a theme, and book people back to back all day offering a discounted rate.

Since we are photographing everyone in the same place or using the same backdrop, and doing the shoots in one day, we can offer a discounted price. Whether I am photographing one person for the day or 15, the time to set up and clean up is pretty much the same!

Now that you know what mini sessions are let’s see if they are right for you.

A mini session is the right fit if:

• You are testing out a new photographer. Mini sessions are a great way to see if you like a photographer and their photography style before committing to a more lengthy session.

• You are on a budget.

• You don’t have a lot of time and just want to get the photos done and get on with your day.

• You want something simple and don’t need anything customized for you.

• Your kids are older babies or toddlers and unlikely to cooperate for a longer session.

• Your kids are at least age 6 months and up.

Mini sessions are not the right fit:

• If you have a newborn or a baby that cannot sit alone yet mini sessions may not be a good fit.

• You have a particular unique theme you want and its not the one being offered.

• You want outfit changes.

• You are interested in a cake smash.

• The day the mini sessions are being held doesn’t work for you.

• You want photos with extended family such as uncles, aunts, cousins etc.
